Ron Shank

Instrument: Guitar, Slide Guitar, Bass, Fretless Bass

Ron has been teaching at Beam’s Music since 1982. He has extensive performance and recording experience (over 1,000 gigs). He recorded at the “Hit Factory” in NYC, where the Rolling Stones and Blue Oyster Cult recorded. He has also played most of the major clubs, colleges and universities in the Philadelphia area and along the east coast from Rhode Island to Florida, and opened for the Grateful Dead at the University of Pennsylvania. Ron played with the cover band “Wingin’ It”, where he doubled on guitar and bass and with “Jeff Dominick and the Fraction”. He also toured and taught in Spain.

Ron has studied privately for over 8 years with teachers such as Kjell Benner, former bassist for “Quiet Riot” and Mike Sembello, former musical director and guitarist for Stevie Wonder. Ron currently plays with “Fat Apple” and freelances on guitar and bass.

Ron’s students have received awards for best musician at Malvern Prep. His students have won first chair in the GV jazz band for the last 9 years including guitar and bass. Some of his students pursue degrees and advanced degrees in music at schools such as Berklee, NYU, Cornell, Berkley and Goucher University. Some of these students have received scholarship.

Ron specializes in teaching improvisation with emphasis on theory, harmony, chords, scales, modes and technique as it applies to modern rock, heavy metal, alternative, blues, punk, pop, country rock and jazz.
