Ron ShankInstrument: Guitar, Slide Guitar, Bass, Fretless Bass

     Ron has been playing since 1966, has been at Beam’s since 1982, and has been teaching privately since 1974. He has extensive performance (over 1,000 gigs) and recording experience including recording at “The Hit Factory” in NYC, where the Rolling Stones and Blue Oyster Cult have recorded. He has also played most of the major clubs, colleges and universities in not only the greater Philadelphia area, but also from Rhode Island to Florida, and Spain where he taught and toured for two weeks.
     Ron is currently playing with “Fat Apple” and freelancing on guitar and bass. He has opened for the Grateful Dead at the University of Pennsylvania, and played in many cover and original bands including “Wingin’ It,” where he doubled on guitar and bass, and “Jeff Dominick and the Fraction.” Ron has studied privately for over 8 years including with Kjell Benner, former bassist for Quiet Riot, and Mike Sembello, former musical director and guitarist for Stevie Wonder.
     Ron specializes in teaching improvisation with emphasis on theory, harmony, chords, scales, modes and technique as it applies to modern rock, heavy metal, alternative, blues, punk, pop, country rock and jazz.
