Julia Petters

Instrument: Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, and Voice

Julia has taught privately for 15 years, 10 years now at Beam’s studio as well as currently running the band program at West Chester Friends School and teaching woodwind lessons at Academy of Notre Dame. She holds a B.S in Music Education with PA K-12 certification from West Chester University and is currently working towards a Master’s in Flute Performance. She has also studied jazz theory and performance for several years. Lessons are tailored around the student’s goals and ability level, with learning a solid foundation of technique and proper note reading as the main focus. It is important for the lessons to be enjoyable, so music choices are varied in order to teach many styles and have fun while learning!

Many of Julia’s students have been quite successful. Most woodwind students (flute, clarinet and saxophone) earn first chair seating, solos and are accepted into district band, all- catholic band and local youth orchestras and bands. Many vocal students have also earned lead roles in school and professional theatre productions, solo performances, recorded CD’s, and have been accepted into all-catholic, district and honors chorus.

Julia performs and records as well. She has recorded flute and clarinet tracks for the grammy-nominated children’s musical CD “It’s Not Mean to Be Green” and plays flute on the iphone app “tiki toss”, as well as other various projects. She performs regularly with the Pennsylvania Flute Choir, WCU flute choir and seasonally with the Brandywine Singers and various church performances in the area. She can also be seen as a guest performer with various musical groups throughout the area.
